GoCarSale does not process payments. Use these guidelines to stay safe when buying or selling.
Buying safely
- Meet in a public place (daylight, ideally near a police station or busy parking lot).
- Verify the VIN on the car matches the title and any history report.
- Inspect before you pay. Consider a pre-purchase inspection at a trusted mechanic.
- Avoid wire transfers and payment requests through unfamiliar third parties.
- Use a bill of sale and keep copies of all paperwork.
Selling safely
- Meet buyers in a public place and bring a friend when possible.
- Never share verification codes (SMS/2FA codes) with anyone.
- Accept secure payment (cash at a bank, cashier’s check verified at the issuing bank, or other local methods you trust).
- Do a test drive safely: check license/insurance and ride along.
- Remove personal info from the vehicle (garage openers, documents) before handoff.
Scam prevention & common red flags
Be cautious if someone:
- Pressures you to pay quickly or off-platform.
- Refuses in-person inspection, VIN verification, or a safe meeting location.
- Claims to be "out of town" and wants to ship the vehicle after payment.
- Asks for gift cards, wire transfers, crypto, or unusual payment methods.
Reporting & enforcement
If you see suspicious behavior or a listing that violates our policies, use the “Report” action on the listing (when available) or contact support. Reports are reviewed and can lead to removal, account limits, or bans.
